Coherent Ising machines based on optical parametric oscillators
Combinatorial optimization problems are found everywhere in our modern society. It is known that many combinatorial optimization problems can be converted to a ground-state-search problem of the Ising model, which describes the behavior of interacting spins. Nowadays, intensive research is being undertaken to realize computers for solving Ising model problems by using networks of artificial spins. A coherent Ising machine (CIM) is one of such “Ising model solvers” using degenerate optical parametric oscillators as artificial spins. In this article, I review the principle and recent experimental progress of the CIM.
