Digital Annealer: Specialized hardware to solve combinatorial optimization problems in practical use
A Digital Annealer (DA) is a new architecture to solve combinatorial optimization problems at high speed with digital circuits, which was inspired by quantum phenomena. Unlike quantum computers, the DA does not require a large-size cooling device, resulting in small-size hardware and can be operated stably at room temperature. A fully-connected architecture provides the ability to represent a large-scale problem effectively. The DA and the application of this technology aid customers in a wide range of businesses, including drug discovery, chemistry, manufacturing, transportation, finance, and logistics. This article explains the basic specifications of the DA and introduces some application examples.
