Medical imaging: Acoustic microscopy (AM)

Biological acoustic microscopy makes it possible to acquire quantitative acoustic parameters such as sound speed and acoustic impedance that can be correlated to hardness of the tissue. As it does not need the staining process that is normally required in optical observation, a non-invasive observation of living tissues and cells can be realized. Its outline and some examples of observations will be described.
