Space selective crystal growth induced single crystalline metal oxide nanowires and their nanodevice applications

Here we report our recent progress with single crystalline metal oxide nanowires and their novel nanodevice applications. MD simulations revealed the importance of material flux on the emergence of nanowire crystal growth via liquid metal catalysts. Experimentally, we found this material flux concept can be applicable for all existing metal oxide VLS nanowires. By utilizing a single nanowire measurement system, we show the feasibility of metal oxide nanowires for various nanodevice applications, including a nanowire memristor, a nanowire thermoelectric device, microfluidic devices for biomolecule analysis (DNA, RNA, protein, cancer cell), and molecule recognition sensor electronics.
