Application of a plasmonic chip to the field of biology
Fluorescence is a powerful tool for the detection of biomolecules. Enhanced fluorescence can improve the detection sensitivity in a biosensor. A plasmonic chip is a substrate with a wavelength-scale periodic structure coated with a thin metal layer and can provide enhanced fluorescence based on grating-coupled surface plasmon resonance (GC-SPR). Therefore, in immunosensing with a plasmonic chip, a fluorescence that was enhanced several hundred times was observed compared with that in a glass substrate. In this study, I introduce the application of a plasmonic chip to immunosensors and cell imaging with a fluorescence microscope.
