In this paper, the author describes the end-graft technique
as an effective method for fixing a single polymer chain on a solid surface.
The technique is applied to one-dimensional silicon chain or polysilane. The
synthesis of end-grafted polysilanes, their single molecular and supramolecular
structures as observed by atomic force microscopy, and their temperature-dependent
electronic absorption spectra are presented and discussed from the viewpoint
of single-polymer science and electronics.
