To develop an interest in science, especially physics, among students,
it is important that they enjoy and understand the wonder of nature by themselves.
In the new course of study (national curriculum), experiments and investigations
are greatly emphasized.
However, it is impossible to carry them out, because Monbusho has neglected to
improve classroom conditions by lowering the number of students and providing
adequate facilities. In primary school, the number of science lessons has
decreased by about 25%. In secondary school, the number of compulsory science
lessons has also decreased and their content is harder, so students dislike
physics even more. In high school, enrollments in physics classes has decreased
sharply. To solve these problems it is first necessary to improve classroom condition.
With the cooperation of teachers nationwide, we must begin by designing new
courses as well as teaching and learning materials.
University entrance examinations should also radically be reformed.
